MUST GET!
While Chile’s strength is with the warm-climate, big reds, some producers are crafting appealing Pinots. At amazing prices. Leyda is not only inexpensive, but scores for mature flavours and some of the “˜farmyard’ character beloved by fans of red Burgundy. Think earthy and raunchy ““ Fall day romp in the woods. And as you might expect, I’ll be buying lots. As ever with Pinot, best with white or brown meats, possibly partnered with mushrooms or grilled salmon.
LEYDA 12 Pinot Noir, Chile 358929 $12.50
Enjoyed the Leyda, also the Cono Sur Pinot Noir. Just had the Estate Series Pinot from Errazuriz (2013) which I thought had the ‘farmyard’ of the Leyda, maybe more so but came in at 13.5% alc., which I like. Just wondering if you have tried it?
The duchess and I, wearing our gifts to each other–matching leopard-skin print Snuggies, enjoyed this with a post-Christmas pot roast. In fact, we enjoyed it so much the entire bottle disappeared before the roast. (Unfortunately neither of us could figure out how to extract ourselves from the Snuggies and so spent the entire evening trapped in the infernally-warm fuzzy cocoons–but that’s another story!)
