Aligoté is the basic white wine in Burgundy ““ mainly drunk as a refresher, or mixed with Cassis to make a Kir. However, on the Niagara scene, Chateau des Charmes makes Aligoté with more purpose ““ and love. Especially now that the wine is 100% from their own plantings (1991) of the grape. For the past few years I’ve noticed an extra shot of flavor and some richness in the wine, and the 2011 is like a Pinot Grigio that went to charm school. Polite, gentle and socially skilled. Very pleasant company. A five star sipping white. Think parties, family gatherings, open houses, lunches, or just being lazy…
