Myles Kehoe bar in Enniscorthy, Wexford, Ireland used to have an off-licence with a tiny wine selection. On a visit many years ago, Myles took me to a shelf of Bordeaux red wine and announced, “This is my Fronsac, the best value in Bordeaux”.
I’ve waited a long time to pass along Myles tip, but here is the style of wine he used to sell. Fresh, frank, solid, no-nonsense stuff that tastes/feels of a French Bistro. Drier and less rich than today’s popular reds, but the perfect partner for steak frites, lamb chops or any food that nurtures belly and soul. You’re sure to need a second bottle! Buy a case as this is an amazing value at $14.95. Worth seeking out at Vintages this weekend.
