4. RIESLING FOR THE OYSTERS
Tis the season when oyster lovers like to gather around the kitchen table and shuck/slurp down a dozen or five. Washed down with tumblers of local dry Riesling of course. Crisp, minerally fresh Ontario Riesling is the world’s best oyster wine. Cave Spring has been the local Riesling champ (at LCBO) for over two decades. Their neighbour, Thirty Bench, excels with thrilling, small-batch (winery-only) bottles. The wine below (at Vintages) is off-dry and sure to please even the non-oyster guest. My previous recommendation from The Grange is one of the best locals at the LCBO.
CAVE SPRING 11 Riesling Dry, VQA Niagara 233635 $14.95
THIRTY BENCH 11 Riesling , VQA Beamsville Bench 24133 Vintages $18.95
THE GRANGE “˜Trumpours Mill’ 09 Riesling, VQA PEC 28258 $14.95
