I cannot claim to remember the first, but I’ve being enjoying Campofiorin for half of its historic life. It was the original Ripasso, and created a confidence in Italian reds. Also I always felt it was, and still is reasonably priced.

I love the old-fashioned red wine character ““ the dryness, the earthy/heartwarming flavours, the sense of mystery. As opposed to up-front fruity niceness. The rustic, hearty character feels really good at this time of year. Think manly, matureand needing the meat. Campofiorin is crafted for the dinner table ““ it would be hugely inappropriate for party sipping.

MASI 11 Campofiorin, Veneto, Italy 155051 $19.95 ($16.95 till Nov 28th)
