2 Good French Reds Under $20

HERE’S 2 REALLY GOOD FRENCH REDS FOR LESS THAN $20.

One of the reasons I go to Vintages is for reds from the south of France. I particularly enjoy the wines that are difficult to describe. Wines that taste of wine and which take you somewhere. And there is great variety ““ everything from the richest to light and refreshing. The Vacqueyras below is a delicious, delicate edition of Rhone. Elegance and charm. Could be mistaken for a Pinot. Perfect for summer meals with white meats, or even salmon.

Burgundy is hardly in the south of France but it is the home of Pinot, and fans will not be disappointed with my pick below. It’s tart and rustic with a strong sense of somewhere in the Country. Not afraid to be a bit wild and challenging. Wonderfully old-fashioned.

CLOS DE CAVEAU 09 Vacqueyras, Cotes du Rhone-Villages, France 277871 Vintages $18.95

HENRI DE VILLAMONT 09 Pinot Noir, Bourgogne, France 84616 Vintages $17.95
