Portuguese reds are a hard sell as most people lack the confidence to buy something that’s not popular, or prestigious. Too bad because Portugal can rival its European cousins in both the value and quality departments. Check-out this under-$10 trio of reds.
JP 15 RED Azeitao (286195 $8.95) . . . plummy, semi rich and very Merlotish. Bring on the beef.
JM da FONSECA 13 Periquita, Setubal (25262 $8.95) . . . solid, medium-bodied red that’s been an LCBO hit for several decades.
GRAO VASCO 13 Dao (14977 $7.95) . . . smooth, spicy/sweet, charmer. Shades of Rhone and good with almost any food from burger to pizza to chicken or pork. Great party red too. Probably the most “˜overlooked’ red at the LCBO . . . and in the world.
