The Bosc family at Chateau des Charmes have been making excellent, down-to-earth, Gamays for decades and, thanks to the warm 2014 vintage, this may be their best yet. I love the Beaujolais-style bright fruitiness, mixed with Barbera-style tangy bitterness. Fun meets earthiness. Wonderful stuff for refreshing, and getting the palate in gear for food.
The new 14 vintage Gamay from Angels Gate is lighthearted, and dangerously gulpable. Lightly chilled this is the perfect party drink, or partner for birds of all sizes.
The Speck boys at Pelham pioneered Baco in these parts and I’m sure you’ll be saying “˜thank-you’ when you taste the current vintage. While it has typical Baco earthiness/tartness, there is also a nourishing feeling. Very Italian momma.
