Some Australian producers are changing their wine style away from commercial, smooth, spicy sweet, blockbuster to leaner, drier ““ more European style. Instead of trying to compete with South America with everyday priced wines, they are going after the next level up. Drinkers with a Euro palate. I’ll be a fan if all their $15 Chardonnays and Rhone blends are as good as the pair below.
KellerMeister Chardonnay is a light white with teasing, delicate flavours. It refreshes, delivers a snazzy feeling, and invites you back for more. How could you not like that?!
The red GSM (Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro) is also stylish, and falls somewhere between Rhone herbaceousness, and Spanish seduction. Both earthy and charming. Another wine that invites multiple glasses. Make that bottles!
P.S. Don’t worry about the Funk bit, it refers to a wagon used by an early settler by the name of Johann Funk.
