Take a detour to the Hungarian section for one of the best buys in everyday dry white wine. This little gem has been on-and-off my recommended list for over a decade but the current vintage is the best yet. And it’s now screw cap, and the smart new label won’t make you look cheap. Super refreshing with just a tease of fruit so it’s not unlike Italian Pinot Grigio.
Dunavar 08 Pinot Blanc, Hungary #565820 $8.25
P.S. Dunavar 08 Muscat Ottonel (#565812 $8.35) is also worth considering especially for summer refreshment. Light, lean, tart with just a whiff of Muscat perfume. At only ten percent alcohol it’s an alternative to Vinho Verde. A daytime drink.
