MY PICKS FOR HOLIDAY SHOPPING AT VINTAGES
LOTS OF SUPER STUFF UNDER $25
I’ll be offering my picks from regular LCBOs next week (along with thoughts-n-the-turkey, beer, booze and sparkling) but Vintages are up first as it means a special trip for some shoppers.
As you may have noticed Vintages puts out a ton of high-priced and highly-touted wines at this time of year and it can be tempting to indulge. I’m fortunate to be able preview before buying, and each year my sympathies go out to those who fall for the glitzy propaganda dished out in LCBO catalogues. Basically most of the $50+ wines are no better than the $25 ones. In many cases they are less interesting ““ being overly polished and just too perfect. However, I have included a couple of ~ quality big hitters should you be looking for gifts to please the serious wino.
My list contains more reds as “˜tis the season’, and covers a variety of styles so please note the ones most likely to please you. Or, you could be adventurous and embrace them all. The Holiday season can get dull if you’re drinking nothing but your favourite.
