ATTENTION ALL DOUBTERS ““ DOW WILL BE CONVERTED!
A leading American wine journalist recently declared Portugal to be the most exciting new wine frontier. His point of reference is the wonderful high-end red wines from the Douro region (home to Port), but I’d like to also say there is also much to discover at the lower end, such as Sogrape’s Dao at $7.95. Longtime readers will know that I’ve always being touting the Dao ““ a red wine experience that falls somewhere between Burgundy and the Rhone. Raunchy and rustic. The Marlborough man and his horse. This newly arrived vintage of Grao Vasco (new package) may be the most characterful, under-ten-dollar wine on the planet. Not for everyone, but sure to please if you’re more back-street than box-store.
