SOUTH of the BORDER
Our other, almost local, wine region is New York State. I used to visit the Finger Lakes a lot in the days when Niagara was dull and boring, but haven’t been in almost a decade. A delegation of New York State wineries were in town recently and got me thinking about a road trip this summer. Stay tuned. The event featured excellent Rieslings from old familiar names such as Heron Hill, Dr. Frank and Herman Weimer. A Long Island winery that stood out for quality and value was Raphael ““ elegant Chard, Sauve Blanc and Merlot. All the Long Island wines were very French in style ““ look for these in NYC restaurants.
