DEAL OF THE YEAR ON NIAGARA PINOT

I’m a big fan of the Phil Dowell’s winemaking at Angels Gate as he understands that less is more. And charm triumphs power. Before I get into the wine below, I must warn that it will have no appeal to fans of heavier reds such as Malbec or Cabernet. Okay, here we go, Angels Gate wine is true to Pinot’s lightish characteristics, with the unmistakable earthy/fall feeling ““ and slight funk/stink flavour enjoyed by fans this grape. Add delicious drinkability when lightly chilled. I have never experienced this amount of Pinot character (stink . . yes) in local wine at this price. Best with lighter foods ““ late Summer BBQ of white meats, or salmon.

ANGELS GATE 18 Pinot Noir, VQA Niagara 308486 $18.95 ($16.95 til Sept 13)
