Our local winemakers are starting to change some drinkers perception of Gamay. For sure the wine tends to be on the lighter side, but it can be great company with a wide variety of events and foods ““ providing you don’t invite nothing-but-Cabernet types. Gamay from the Cru regions of Beaujolais can often out-perform some Pinots from up the road in Burgundy ““ which is the case here. Chiroubles is considered to be the most “˜gulpable’ of the Crus, and that might explain the speed at which my bottle disappeared. The experience is of delicious fruitiness, refreshing tartness, and frankness. No pretense, no added perfume, no nonsense ““ just a damn good drink (lightly chilled). Cru Beaujolais and comfort food are my favourite Sunday night partners.
