AN IMPRESSIVE RED AT REGULAR LCBOs!
Not being much of a steak-guy, Californian Cabernet seldom gets into my shopping cart. I also find these wines to be madly overpriced, especially the ones I taste each month for the LCBO Vintages releases. However, if I needed to close a business deal with a person in an expensive suit, I’d willingly entertain Calif Cab ““ at any price.
There are always exceptions to the rule, such as Raymond’s Cabernet. Which is reasonably priced, and can delight outside the steak category. The usual solidness of Cabernet is delivered with spicy, seductive fruitiness and a bright, not-too-serious feeling. There’s more than the usual dose of charm ““ bordering on the sexy style of Zin. Recent new owners, the French wine house of Boisset, have once again weaved its magical touch at this Californian winery. You cannot go wrong bringing Raymond to a dinner party ““ good with everything, and everyone.
