Worth Cracking!

3630WORTH CRACKING THE BUBBLY CODE!

It’s no longer a secret that Prince Edward County can produce great bubbly, but one of the best is a bit of a secret. It cannot be found at a winery and goes by the name 3630 Bubble. Hardly the best marketing plan you might think. But maybe it is. If you make good wine people will talk about it, just as I’m doing here.

Bill Turnbull planted a small vineyard in the County having spent years traveling around the wine world. As most small producers do, he rents winemaking and bottling facilities hence no retail location. He decided to call his wines (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) 3630 after the spacing of his vines, 36 inches one way and 30 the other ““ as are most of the vineyards in Europe. Not surprisingly, his Chardonnay is a dead ringer for White Burgundy and his sparkling is very Champagne-like. Bill’s “˜bubble’ as its called, is the first local all-Pinot Noir sparkling I’ve tasted and boy does it have lots of personality. The colour is pale rosé and the wine is an exciting tease of fruitiness and refreshing dryness. Sure to please and impress even the fussiest wino. Perfect aperitif for a fancy dinner, and too good to waste on a New Year’s bash. How to get some? Call 613-399-5888 or email 3630wine@gmail.com or visit Bill (591 Christian Road, Wellington) and make arrangements. Pick-up, or have it shipped.~
