All the world knows that New Zealand is the next great country for Pinot Noir, but you hear less about Australiaâ€™s ability to delight the Pinot fan. In a recent post on my visit to the Yarry Valley I mentioned the De Bortoli winery as a source of Pinot at reasonable prices. And crafted in the tangy, dry Italian spirit. Not a trace of the prettiness usually found in New World Pinots. Really appetizing stuff with an everyday feeling. Lightly chill.
Clos Henryâ€™s wine comes across like adult Beaujolais. Fun but some roots. Lightly chilled it is dangerously gulpable. A great example of what New Zealand has to offer with Pinot.
