Whites in the New Style

Recently tasted and recommended
One of the best things to happen in white wine is a revival of the practice of blending several grape varieties so there is more than just one expression. Who’d not enjoy a wine with the zest of Riesling, the flesh of Chardonnay and the exotic flavours or Traminer!

INNISKILLIN 06 “˜Brae Blanc’, Niagara 109975 $14.95″¨It doesn’t get much nicer! A blend of Gewurz, Riesling and Chard. The perfect please-all drink, or anytime sipper.

HILLEBRAND 07 ‘Trius’ White, Niagara 54957 $18.95″¨The lip-smacking tartness of Dry Riesling is the main show here. But it’s the exotic Muscat flavours that keep you wanting more and more. A sting and kiss combo that’s mighty appealing. Kick off your evening with this one.

ROSEMOUNT 08 Traminer/Riesling, Australia 244301 $11.95″¨Slightly sweet and bursting with tropical fruit flavours. Just lovely. Bring on summer afternoons at the cottage, and summer brunches.

  • Very much liked the Brae Blanc – picked it up because the LCBO was blaring that it was a “Billy’s Best Bottles Selection” with the B-movie-esque endorsement “it doesn’t get much nicer!” in quotes on their shelf label.
