THE NEW STYLE OF VINHO VERDE

Some wineries in the Vinho Verde region are move away from the light, simple refresher style to a more medium-bodied white to compete on the international stage with Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and other non-oaked wines. The label will usually feature a grape variety, such as Laureiro in this case. I’m a big fan of this movement as these wines will bring something new ““ adding another choice on the menu of everyday whites. Not hugely different, but for now the wines have more to say than Pinot Grigio, and often rival Sauvignon Blanc for energetic high notes. Check it out.
