Sexy Salta for $10

amalayaThe remote setting and ancient history of Salta ““ in mountains to the north, has made it one of the hot tourist regions in Argentina. And a new region for wines, especially whites which thrive in the hot day/cool night environment.

The Torrontes grape is Argentina’s edition of Muscat or Gewurztraminer, and this wine is not far removed from the intense, exotic character of Alsace Gewurz. Tangy dry and quite bold, could be too intense for some ““ but at this price you can certainly explore. The Alsace version is twice the price. Almost all foods are overpowered by this style of wine ““ I enjoy it early evening as a “˜cocktail wine’, or later for nitecap.
