Pelee Does Prosecco

Secco-VQAI have a glass of bubbly almost every day because I love how it makes me feel. Life is good and all that. Spanish, Italian or Aussie cheapies are my usual choices but now there’s a local that I’ve added to my list. Pelee Island Winery has just launched a fresh, fruity bubbly with the lighthearted, fun feeling of Prosecco. Wine for everyday. And at an everyday price. Which is the Pelee trademark.

Congrats to Pelee not only on an excellent wine but on a package that echoes to fun nature of the contents. Sure to put you in the mood for summer evenings on the patio.

Check my blog over the next few weeks for several more good buys from Pelee.

  • Billy (or others), do you happen to know why so many of Pelee Island’s wines are VQA Ontario, rather than being VQA Pelee Island? If I understand correctly they grow all their grapes on the island itself, so in theory only wines made from hybrids wouldn’t be VQA Pelee Island.

  • Hi John, the short answer is in order to fill their needs Pelee buys grapes from all over Ontario. Hence the designation. Blending from several regions might also be done to improve quality, or balance the wines in poor years. Even if they use only 5% of wines from another region, the wine can only claim an Ontario VQA.

Stay tuned for news of a terrific foursome from Pelee. You guessed it – all with the VQA Ontario designation.
