Old vs. Young REDS

MugaAt a dinner party someone brought two different years of a Rioja. A 2008 and a 2001 Muga. Before anyone had an opportunity to taste, I made a prediction that the most would prefer the younger wine. “But, Billy don’t wines improve with age?” I’ll let you be the judge, was my response. An hour later everyone voted for the 2008. “How did you know we would not like the older wine?” It was acalculated guess based on my experiences ““ cannot remember when I last enjoyed a red wine over ten-years-old. I find it hard to believe that so many people still think that old is best. Wine myths survive longer than wines themselves.
