Roy Thomson Hall has a new wine premium lounge called OCTA where you can enjoy eight fine wines, by the glass. Each dispensed by a machine that keeps the wine as fresh as when the bottles was first opened. “This is a first for a Canadian concert venue” says CEO (and wine affectionado) Charles S. Cutts, who is excited to bring this attraction to RTH.

Each wine offered falls into a style category system that employs musical terms to reflect the wine’s spirit: for instance, ‘Vivo’ for a fresh and lively white, ‘Contraldo’ for a rich white, ‘Forte’ for a substantial powerful red and ‘Dolce’ for a sweeter style. “We did this to give patrons a sense of the wines before ordering, and to make wine less intimidation, and more fun”, says wine consultant Billy Munnelly  who makes the selections. You will also notice a tie-in between wines and events taking place at the hall – such as a decadent and lush Malbec in celebration of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

Beautifully designed by KPMB architects, OCTA is an exciting and exclusive venue for wine  patrons who want to elevate their RTH. It is located on the sunny southwest corner of the lobby where the music store once was, and is open before each show and at intermission. Wines are from a variety of countries, including Canada and they are offered in either 3 or 5 ounce pours. Selections change three times a year, and CEO Cutts selects one wine each rotation – coined as ‘Charlie’s pick’. READ MORE HERE!
