Our other, almost local, wine region is New York State. I used to visit the Finger Lakes a lot in the days when Niagara was dull and boring, but haven’t been in almost a decade. A delegation of New York State wineries were in town recently and got me thinking about a road trip this summer. Stay tuned. The event featured excellent Rieslings from old familiar names such as Heron Hill, Dr. Frank and Herman Weimer. A Long Island winery that stood out for quality and value was Raphael – elegant Chard, Sauve Blanc and Merlot. All the Long Island wines were very French in style – look for these in NYC restaurants.
